If you haven't visited for a while, your perception of food in Vegas may consist of $4.95 prime rib and cheap buffets. Fortunately, the selection and quality has become much better. One of the best trends in Vegas is the proliferation of great restaurants.
It seems like every high-profile chef in the country is opening a new restaurant
in Vegas. Also, with the new, upscale hotels, the city's famous buffets are
getting even better. The bottom line is that you can get great food in this
town. We've listed our some favorites below, but make sure to ask your concierge.

Fine Dining
Emeril's
All of the food at this restaurant is fantastic, particularly the seafood. The
atmosphere is upscale but also loud. The Editors highly recommend this great
restaurant located in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.
Cafe Martorano
You'll love this Italian restaurant restarant from Chef Steve Martorano. Enjoy the killer Italian food from this Philly native and the clips from mob movies that blare in the background. It's a unique experience and a must-see spot in Vegas.
Aureole
New York chef Charlie Palmer opened a Vegas version of his wonderful New York
restaurant in the new Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The modern decor in this
restaurant is amazing and contributes a very upscale atmosphere. The glass-enclosed wine vault is over 40 feet high and houses over 9,000 bottles
of wine. In order to get at the wine bottles, they strap an attractive woman in
a harness and lift her up to the selected bottle. Bring your charge card or
loads of cash this place is expensive.
Spago
The Vegas version of this famous LA restaurant from Wolfgang Puck lives up to
its namesake. It's located in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace.
Le Cirque
Located in Bellagio, you'll find great French food and a very elegant
atmosphere. Shirt and tie is mandatory. Great for a date, not so great for a
group of guys.
Buffets
Bellagio
The best buffet in Vegas can be found at the Bellagio. They have King
crabs already split, nice sized shrimp and plenty of meat selections including
delicious lamb! The elegant atmosphere and wide selection make this a sure
bet!!!
Rio Hotel
Check this out if you like seafood. Here you'll find all the cooked lobster
tails you can fit in your stomach. The rest of the seafood isn't as good, but
the lobster is worth the expense!
Caesar's Palace
You can stuff you face while soaking in the atmosphere
of one of the city's classic casinos.
Mirage - Cravings
Everything you could want.
Steakhouses
Palm Restaurant
The quintessential New York steak house has set up shop in Vegas in the Forum
Shops at Caesar's Palace and the Editors couldn't be happier. Here you'll find
the best steak and the best lobster in town. The loud, New York-style atmosphere
also adds to the experience.
Prime in the Bellagio
Word is that Steve Wynn convinced Jean-Georges Vongerichten (trust us,
he's a famous chef) to open a steak house at the Bellagio. The result is an
upscale restaurant overlooking the Bellagio fountains that has become the
hottest new steak house in Vegas.
Lawry's The Prime Rib
This well-known Beverly Hills restaurant has opened in Las Vegas and is a
welcomed addition to the many choices Vegas offers for great prime rib. The
atmosphere and decor is straight out of the 30's and 40's.
Morton's of Chicago
Those of you who've been to Morton's will not be surprised to learn that these
popular restaurants were inspired by the Flintstones cartoon series. We
recommend the 3-lb. Brontosaurus steak. (Translation: The portions are HUGE!)
Smith & Wollensky
Another NY steak house that has set up shop in Vegas. They built their own
three-story building right in the middle of the Strip. Meatlovers can't go wrong
here.
Casual Dining
Mr. Lucky's 24/7 Cafe
This 24-hour cafe located at the Hard Rock is a great choice if you want a
quick, casual meal in a fun atmosphere. Like the casino, the crowd is young and
the waitresses are beautiful and friendly.
Bertolini's
Located in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace, this restaurant offers solid
Italian dishes at moderate prices. We liked the casual atmosphere in the middle
of the bustling mall area. Enjoy the people watching.
Grand Lux Cafe
If you're looking for a decent meal at any time, day or night, you can count on
this cafe located at the Venetian. The Editors recommend the pizzas and the
breakfast dishes.
