Jeep trucks and SUVs, Jeep brand profile

No one really agrees on the origin of the name, Jeep. The official site suggests it’s probably a mashup of military slang and a character from Popeye. Whatever the origin, we know Jeep today as the durable little beast people actually take off road. The original Jeep model was the result of a military need for a rugged vehicle in World War II. While Bantam, Willys and Ford all submitted bids for the deal, and likely influenced the design, Bantam was credited with the creation of the first Jeep. The Brand would continue to change hands over the next six decades, finally landing in Chrysler’s lap. They continue the tradition of vehicles built to exacting standards for the most rugged terrain.
