Hyundai used to be synonymous with junk. Founded in 1967, Hyundai didn’t enter the US market until 1986. The Korean imports were notorious for being at the bottom of the price range for sacrificing anything involving quality. After acquiring Kia Motors in 1998, Hyundai began a turnaround, slapping a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty onto all of their vehicles and overhauling their biggest sellers. In the past 10 years, Hyundai has revitalized their brand image, and made a new reputation for themselves as a moderately priced, high quality automobile. The company ranked second in the industry for ‘initial brand quality’ in a 2006 J.D Power & Associates Survey, just behind Toyota, cementing their image in the quality import market.
