When people talk about cars with sex appeal, Lamborghini always makes the list. The Italian carmaker is responsible for iconic vehicles such as the Countache and the Diablo, both of which are instantly recognizable by decades of car fanatics. Few people realize, though, that Lamborghini began as a tractor manufacturer. It was only after founder and engineer, Ferruccio Lamborghini, had made a fortune on tractors that he decided to enter the supercar market. It took Lamborghini just one year to build his factory and roll out the 350 GTV: an instant masterpiece of engineering and design.
As with most top-end manufacturers, Lamborghini has struggled for profitability and changed hands many times as a result. In 1987 the company would change from a history of private ownership and be purchased by Chrysler. Chrysler, however, could not turn a profit with the supercars, and it passed hands privately, to be sold again in 1998 to Audi AG. Under Audi, Lamborghini produced the Murcielago, one of their greatest two-seaters to date.
