AJ Hawk
A.J. Hawk

Athletes Home / NFL Home / Sports Channel

With his toughness, speed and an overall work ethic that rivals some of the best, Packers linebacker AJ Hawk appears to have every tool to succeed in the NFL.

As a rookie last year, Hawk led Green Bay in tackles with 121, including 84 solo stops. He also added 3.5 sacks; two interceptions and a forced fumble while starting all 16 games for the Packers. In a Week 10 win over Minnesota, he contributed 13 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Green Bay will love his willingness to work and his high motor on and off the field. Hawk probably won’t be the kind of linebacker you count on in pass protection, but that doesn’t mean he’s a stiff out there either. He has great sideline-to-sideline tackling ability and should help the Packers in run defense.

Latest on Hawk

Anyone who thought Hawk might slump in his sophomore season was sadly mistaken. While he didn't lead the Packers in tackles like he did his rookie year, Hawk still finished second to Nick Barnett (131) with 105 total takedowns. Hawk also finished with a sack, a forced fumble and an interception.

John Clayton on the ’06 linebacker class
ESPN’s John Clayton discusses the role a linebacker plays in an NFL draft while also going over the possibility that this year’s class is better than the ’00 backers.

AJ Says

On what kind of NFL linebacker he wants to be:
"I don't want to be considered a linebacker who is just a run stopper or one that is simply better in coverage. I want to be a complete linebacker. In this defense, I can run and make plays."

On the game of football:
"I don't think the game of football is that easy, but I also don't think it is as complicated as a lot of people like to think. I try to make it simple. I try to remember that when things are going crazy out there on the field and people are scheming too much. I try to remember that."

On marrying young:
"You hear so many horror stories about dating when you're rich and kind of famous. I fell in love and was just ready."
