T

he inaugural class of our Directors Hall of Fame led to some debate around the Bullz-Eye offices, and it likely caused quite a stir with our readers as well. After all, while guys like Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese seemed like obvious additions at the time, James Cameron and Tim Burton were slightly more inspired choices that, after the release of "Avatar" and "Sweeney Todd," have since reaffirmed their presence on the list. The same holds true for our newest class, which is nothing if not diverse, including old-school legends like Stanley Kubrick and Francis Ford Coppola, new-school kings of cult like Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers...and John Landis. If the comedy director seems like the wild card of the group...well, he is, but that doesn't make his inclusion any less deserving. Don't believe us? Read on.

Class of 2010 Joel & Ethan Coen Joel & Ethan Coen
"The movie people let us play in the corner of the sandbox and leave us alone. We're happy here."
Francis Ford Coppola Francis Ford Coppola
"In a sense, I think a movie is really a little like a question and when you make it, that's when you
get the answer."
Stanley Kubrick Stanley Kubrick
"A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings."
John Landis John Landis
"I've done every job there is to do on a movie set except makeup. Wait a minute, I've done makeup."
Quentin Tarantino Quentin Tarantino
"Sure, 'Kill Bill' is a violent movie. But it's a Tarantino movie. You don't go to see Metallica and ask the fuckers to turn the music down."
