The kids are back at school (and already bored with their gifts), you've got an extra few pounds of holiday chub to work off, and if you live in a part of the world where winter isn't just a word on the calendar, your days of lounging by the pool in shades and shorts are just a distant memory. It's the grayest, coldest time of year -- and the box office isn't immune to the icy post-holiday lull.

Over the last few years, though, Hollywood has started breaking from its annual tradition of dumping their stragglers in the winter graveyard and saving their best films for the warmer months, and while 2011's early film slate still contains its share of obvious duds, the studios have seen fit to bring us plenty of movies worth getting excited about, from animated and/or family-friendly fare to comedies, dramas, and action. Matter of fact, after poring over the release schedule, we've come up with 35 films that look like they could be worth your hard-earned entertainment dollar.

From the snowy flurries of January to the rising temperatures of April, this winter at the movies has a little bit of everything. Want to see a long-forgotten hero return to action, directed by an art-house favorite? Try Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen's "The Green Hornet." Want a little raunchy comedy? You've got plenty to choose from, including the Farrelly brothers' "Hall Pass." If animation's your thing, "Rango," "Mars Needs Moms," and "Gnomeo & Juliet" should satisfy you. And if you're a Nicolas Cage fan, well, you won't be left wanting for options. They're all here -- and more -- in our 2011 Winter Movie Preview!
