From Paris with Love (February 8)

If "From Paris with Love" had been made 10 years ago, it would have serious blockbuster potential, what with John Travolta starring and a script co-written by Luc Besson. Both men have betrayed our trust a little too often in recent years, but given the overall limited promise we've come to expect from February's release schedule, a Paris-set shoot-'em-up seems like it just might hit the spot.

Valentine's Day (February 12)

As we learned last year with "He's Just Not That Into You," a cast full of young and impossibly good-looking stars doesn't necessarily translate into a decent film. Still, it'll be hard to ignore "Valentine's Day," which tosses Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Patrick Dempsey, Emma and Julia Roberts, Taylors Swift and Lautner, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, and many more celebs into a Garry Marshall-directed story about...love.

The Wolfman (February 12)

If you do manage to get out of having to see "Valentine's Day" over the weekend of the 12th, you'll probably be headed for Joe Johnston's delay-plagued "The Wolfman," in which Universal attempts to revive its once-proud stable of creature features. It's been dogged by troubling rumors for months, but how can you beat a cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, and -- as the titular lupine, natch -- Benicio Del Toro?

Shutter Island (February 19)

Nine times out of 10, when a movie is bumped from awards season to the middle of winter, you can bet there's something wrong with it; in the case of "Shutter Island," however, Paramount just needed to make room in its schedule, and the result is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Leonardo DiCaprio starring in a Martin Scorsese production during a non-blockbuster season. Better yet, the trailer suggests that everyone involved has shed their usual arty ambitions in favor of simply having a pulpy good time.
