Messing with a classic takes balls. Whether you pull it off or not, the pressure is intense. The scrutiny, the expectations, the ridicule if you screw it up. Why bother?

None of that stopped Adam Sandler, Peter Segal and Sheldon Turner, the star, director and screenwriter for the 2005 version of "The Longest Yard." Sandler fills Burt Reynolds' role as Paul "Wrecking" Crewe, a former NFL quarterback who finds himself back on the field while serving a three-year jail sentence. Joining Sandler onscreen are Reynolds, Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and a ton of pro jocks, including Michael Irvin, Bill Romanowski, Brian Bosworth and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. (Granted, calling Boz and Stone Cold "jocks" may be a stretch.)

Along with our review of the new "The Longest Yard," which is now available on DVD, you'll find links to our review of the original, released in 1974 and, to this day, one of the most revered sports films around. Then, find out what screenwriter Sheldon Turner had to say about remaking a classic when he sat down with us for an interview.
