Boys, you better help your girlfriend/significant other/girl you’re talking to get through his one. For anyone in the Fashion community, and for many outside of it, the name Alexander McQueen is familiar and often beloved. A favorite of Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Michelle Obama to name a few, the designer was an icon in the fashion world. Just as New York Fashion Week was getting ready to kick things off, the tragic news of McQueen's death broke to the public.

The designer was found dead in his apartment. It was later confirmed that he died of asphyxiation and hanging. McQueen left a suicide note behind. Investigators report that they have found no suspicious circumstances surrounding the event. It remains a tragedy for many people.

McQueen's mother passed away on February 2, and McQueen's own death occurred on the eve of her funeral. So, in a tragedy that touches the heart of many, both McQueen and his mother were laid to rest within days of each other. It was a shocking beginning to one of fashions busiest and most important weeks of the year.

McQueen became an icon in the fashion community. Winner of four "Best Designer of the Year" awards in Britain, McQueen was known for his outrageous creations and fearlessness. He was not afraid of controversy, and he certainly found it on a number of occasions. His designer clothes clearly demonstrated this.

Not only is the loss of a unique designer like Alexander McQueen a tragedy for the fashion community, but the fate of his legacy may also be in jeopardy. McQueen's brand has always struggled to make a profit. It debuted in 2001 and did not even break even until 2007. A small profit was made in 2008 and then the global banking crisis hit the fashion industry hard, especially those at the high end. McQueen was not spared this economic hit. At his death, his companies had over 32 million pounds in liabilities. The future of his label is uncertain under these circumstances.
