Even though Brussels was bombed heavily in World War II, quite a bit of its gothic architecture survived. Be sure to visit the Grand-Place, which is one of the most beautiful squares in all of Europe, highlighted by the 15th-century Hotel de Ville, also known as the Town Hall. It’s a gorgeous square during the day, but it’s even better at night. Try to grab an outside table at one of the restaurants/bars to relax and soak in the view. A short walk from Grand-Place is Manneken-Pis, a statue of a little boy peeing into a fountain. No one knows for certain which one (if any) of the several stories describing the statue’s origin is actually true. There are several museums near the Grand-Place and over 90 in the city, so there is literally something for everyone in Brussels.
