"Salvation" has the celtic rock flavor of a Big Country tune from the 1980s but with a modern flair. Combining catchy rhythms and melodies seems to be a trademark for the Young Dubliners and this continues with the second track, "Come On." "Scream" is reminiscent of the Dave Matthews hit "Crash" but with a violin part giving it a signature of this band. "Low" is a shit-kicking bluesy rocker while the instrumental "Unreel" sounds like Lord of the Dance meets Iron Maiden. "These Days" is a nice ballad though it does take some time to get going. And "Brown Dog" sounds more traditional Irish. Frontman Keith Roberts can sometimes be a dead ringer for Bono of U2, but quite honestly has more soul in his voice. And at times the violin can grate on the ears. But if you like to put away a few pints and listen to good Irish music, or even if you just like good old-fashioned rock music with big hooks and lots of fun, you'll dig this band. They're on tour now so check 'em out at www.youngdubs.com. ~Mike Farley mfarley@bullz-eye.com
