This band first came onto the pop scene a few years ago with their first single "Meet Virginia," still a staple song on Adult Contemporary and Modern Rock stations all over. The problem with their debut on Aware/Columbia was that the rest of the album could not back up that smash single. Not so with this effort. It appears these boys from San Francisco have taken their songwriting and hooks to new levels.

While the first three tracks, "She's On Fire," "I Wish You Would" and "Let it Roll," have a bit of a country flavor, the choruses are big and will have you singing along in no time. The title track, which is also the first single, is a brilliant piano rocker that brings to mind the Beatles' epic "Hey Jude": "Did you fall for a shooting star / one without a permanent scar / And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?" Just a sampling of the chorus shows this band has grown up fast. And that's not where the hooks end. The best track on this album is "Hopeless," an absolutely riveting rock ballad that shows off the incredible vocal skills and the raw emotion that should draw the listener in. "Respect" is a John Mellencamp, all-American rocker-type song, and "Mississippi" has the pulse and groove worthy of any major motion picture soundtrack.

There are very few duds here, if that's even what you'd call them. Fans of good rock & roll and solid songwriting should pick up Drops of Jupiter. Just don't let anyone borrow it; you may never see it again.
